Frequent care and maintenance of your natural stone or quartz countertops can be quickly built into your overall home cleaning routine. For daily upkeep, wipe down your counters with a soft cloth, warm water, and a mild detergent or dish soap. Avoid harsh or acidic cleaners, abrasive pads, or utensils that can cause scratches. Depending on your surface you may want to think about sealing your countertop to help prevent stains and keep your countertop looking beautiful.
Quartz
Regularly clean your quartz countertops with a warm, wet, soft towel and mild detergent or mild dish soap. Clean any spills or sticky residue as soon as they happen to help avoid staining.
For harder, dried-on spills you can use a glass or surface cleaner. If you need to scrape dried-on messes away, use plastic utensils only.
Never use bleach, harsh acidic cleaners, or hydrofluoric acid on quartz countertops and avoid using abrasive materials when cleaning that could cause damage.
Natural Stone
Regularly wipe down your natural stone countertops with a soft towel, warm water and a mild dish soap. For more in-depth cleaning of your natural stone countertop, mix a warm, non-acidic formula made of three-part dish detergent and one part rubbing alcohol.
Sealing your natural stone countertops is an added precaution to avoid staining. While sealing does not make your countertop entirely stain-proof, it does adds a layer of protection, making your countertop more stain-resistant. Every few months, you should test to see if you need to re-seal your countertops.
Never use harsh or acidic cleaners such as Windex, hydrofluoric acid, vinegar, lemon juice, or ammonia to clean your natural stone countertop. Natural stone countertops are durable but should never be exposed to acidic formulas since they can deteriorate the solid surface. Avoid using hard pads or utensils that scrape as this could cause damage.
